Judge Geoffrey Puryear is a sixth generation Texan and his family has called Central Texas home for more than 150 years. He graduated with a degree in Public Administration from Texas State University in 2004. He continued his education in Lubbock, graduating from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2007. While in law school, he was elected President of the Tech Law Republicans and was recognized for his outstanding courtroom skills with a place on the school‘s criminal law mock trial team. Since then, he has devoted his legal career to public service, seeking justice for victims of violent crimes in dozens of trials in front of judges and juries as a misdemeanor and felony prosecutor. In 2012, Governor Rick Perry appointed Puryear to the Texas Crime Victims’ Advisory Council, a State Board that is charged with conducting an in-depth analysis of the impact of crime on victims, families of deceased victims, and society. In November, 2019, Governor Greg Abbott appointed Puryear to the 460th District Court, a newly created felony criminal court in Travis County. Puryear is a member and serves in a leadership role at Crossroads Community Church. He is also a Den Leader in his son’s Boy Scout pack. Puryear and his wife of 13 years, Afton, live in Austin with their 3 children.
